CASE PRESENTATION A 24-year-old Hispanic male was admitted for a total left knee arthroplasty. During his pre-surgical evaluation, eleven days prior to the operation, the patient's hemoglobin and hematocrit were found to be 14.2 g/dL and 41.4%, respectively (Table 1). No preoperative autologous units were donated; however, 350 ml of salvaged blood was reinfused during the procedure.
